10th Round of Centre- Farmers Talk

Round 10 of talks ends after 5 hours, next farmer-Centre meeting on Jan 22

The tenth round of talks between the Central Union Ministers and  farmers'representatives over the contentious agricultural laws was held today at Vigyan Bhavan. The unions have been asked to form informal groups among themselves and submit a draft to the government regarding their demands.

Union ministers Narendra Tomar and Piyush Goyal are holding the 10th round of talks with farmer leaders in Delhi. Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to reconstitute the committee on farm laws. A week ahead of the mega tractor rally planned by the protesting farmers on Republic Day, the govt is holding yet another round of talks with the farmers. The previous nine rounds of talks between the Centre and farmer unions have failed to bring any results as both sides are firm on their demands. Supreme Court has meanwhile refused to stop the January 26 tractor rally and said the decision has to be taken by the Centre and Delhi Police. The court has ordered a 4-member committee to resolve the deadlock between the farmers and government while farmers have refused to appear before the panel. One of the members, Bhupinder Singh Mann, National President of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, had last week said he was recusing himself from the four-member committee. On the other hand, farmer groups have already started their preparations for the tractor rally on Republic Day. Thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana will start leaving for Delhi on tractors and have started making arrangements for the journey.
